Making Mochi - Part Two

After the special Mochi Rice has completed cooking, it is poured from the boxes used for steaming into a large wooden or stone pounding bowl. Here the rice is being removed from the removal bamboo bottom of the steaming box.
The cooked, wet rice is mixed with wooden mallets. The wooden mallets will then be used to pound the rice into mochi.
